Norel Hassan
I’m a design leader scaling best practices across The New York Times. My work sits at the intersection of design and engineering, helping teams deliver higher-quality products.
Those products rely on infrastructure and processes I lead. Like our UX Platform—an ecosystem powering 5 distinct design systems, ensuring parity across iOS, Android, Web, and Figma. Accessibility is (always) the default.
Or our Prototype Hub—an internal tool that allows builders to spin up and test ideas using any combination of AI tooling and production data. We provide templates so anyone can create, share, or remix ideas across native and web.
I also focus on testing and defining new AI workflows. We constantly ask: How can AI better enable our best practices? My team answers this by creating custom skills, markdown context files, MCP servers, and scripts that support designers and engineers across various builder journeys.
Outside of work, I’ve been known to:
Stress-paint my bathroom
Work on textile projects
Bike, not drive, whenever possible
Case studies and deep dives are available upon request—let's chat.
